MEMBER of Parliament for Ubungo, Mr Charles Keenja, today joined the list of legislators to announce they will not run for parliament in the forthcoming general elections.

Mr Keenja stated his position today, while responding to a question from reporters at Bunge premises.

The 60-year old legislator said he had done a lot in the public service and it was time for others to take over.

"I made myself a promise that I would lead Ubungo constituency for two consecutive terms. I have done enough, I should let other people pick from where I have left," he said, adding:

"I am not planning any further engagement in politics, I will use the rest of my time to serve my family, unless I am consulted for advice."

When asked whether he was quitting under pressure, he replied in the negative.

Mr Keenja joins the 'bandwagon' of Dr Chrisant Mzindakaya (Kwela) and Mr Paul Kimiti (Sumbawanga Urban), who declared last month that they would not contest for another term.

The two MPs from Rukwa Region made their decision in the presence of Prime Minister, Mr Mizengo Pinda, who is also MP for Mpanda East.

Last November, President Jakaya Kikwete hinted that if re-elected, he would inject new blood in the country's leadership.

Earlier this month, the Prime Minister suggested two to three terms for parliamentarians.
