IPP Executive Chairman Reginald Mengi has called on the community to love and help people with disabilities saying it was not their wish to be born with such disabilities.
Mengi made the call yesterday during a fund raising ceremony organised by Msewe Development Group for construction of a dinning hall and water tank for pupils with disabilities at Msewe Primary School in Dar es Salaam.
He said people with disabilities did not ask the Almighty God so that they could be ``born with one leg or eye``.
``There is no one among us who requested God so that he or she could be born without disabilities,`` added Mengi.
He said it was vital for people to assist their colleagues with disabilities because they have all come from God.
He said in the world, human beings own nothing as they were born poor and would leave everything once they pass away.
Mengi donated 50m/- to Msewe Development Group towards the construction of a water tank and a dinning hall.
He also donated 500,000/- for the construction of infrastructures to reduce soil erosion around the school premises.
Mengi also promised to support construction of a water well.
Speaking on behalf of Msewe Development Group, Agnes Urasa, said pupils with disabilities faced a host of problems, including lack of transport, lack of classes and a small number of teachers.
She said the number of pupils with disabilities had also increased from 13 in 1998 to 37 in 2009, among them 21 are boys and 16 girls.
Group sponsors Mbutalwe Kabeta commended Mengi for his assistance and promised to give him feedback of every step they make during the construction.
``We thank you very much. There are very few people, the likes of you, who are ready to help others. It is our belief that the assistance you have given us today will be a catalyst for the school development,`` Kabeta said.
