Police in Rukwa region are holding a fisherman from Kalungu Village, for allegedly attempting to sell his albino wife, Janet Mlele (24), to a Congolese businessmen for 3.6m/-. Rukwa Regional Police Commander Isunto Mantage told reporters here yesterday that John Josef (35) from a small fishing camp along Lake Tanganyika in Nkasi district was caught following a tip-off from a good Samaritan.

He said the informer had told the law enforcers that John was planning to sell his albino wife to strangers from DRC on November 5 at a Kalungu fishing camp. He said on the material day, Police laid a trap and managed too apprehend John but the two Congolese businessmen whose names could not immediately be obtained escaped police arrest by fleeing from the scene of crime before even they concluded the deal.

Police found only John and his albino wife at Kalungu fishing camp on the shore of Lake Tanganyika wondering why the two Congolese businessmen had suddenly vanished. When interrogated by police, Janet said she was not aware that his husband had intended to sell her to the Congolese businessmen while John admitted that he had cheated his wife that he had established a business with friends from DRC and wanted her to meet them, something she accepted.

John further allegedly confessed before the police that the two Congolese had approached him on November 3, this year and wanted to buy his wife for 3.6m/-. He told the police he was enticed to the deal because in his life he had never earned that amount at once, according to the RPC. Preliminary investigation indicated that the DRC businessmen had entered the Kalungu fishing camp on the pretext of buying fish.

He said the duo had already crossed over to DRC and police were seeking International police (Interpol) assistance in arresting them. Mr Mantage said Janet's peasant parents who resides at Namanyere township in Nkasi District were angered by the inhumane behaviour shown by their in - law John and decided to take their daughter back. According to the RPC, the suspect would be arraigned in court once the investigation on the case were completed.

Not at all, Kwa kweli hii njaa itatumaliza wabongo, sasa huyu jamaa alikuwa hajui kama anauza mkewe wakamuue?.

Sasa sijui kipi is worse kati ya hivyo viwili!
