Dangerous Drog's Act

DIDIER DROGBA could be hit with a lengthy ban after throwing a coin back at Burnley yobs and giving them a disgraceful one-fingered salute. The FA and the Metropolitan Police have announced they are both investigating last night's incident. Chelsea star Drogba?s moment of madness came just after he scored the opening goal as the Blues crashed out of the Carling Cup on penalties.
Burnley thugs threw a coin at Drogba as he was celebrating his 27th-minute strike but the Chelsea man hurled it back into the crowd after raising his middle finger towards the visiting fans. Drogba was last night forced to issue a grovelling apology. The Ivory Coast star, who was booked by ref Keith Stroud, said: ?I tried to celebrate the goal and I received some things at me.
?The big mistake I did was to throw it back so if someone was hurt I just want to apologise.
?This is not something I should show and I want to apologise. It was an incident in the heat of the moment and I regret it. It was just a mistake and nothing more.? The FA do not normally take action if the ref has dealt with an incident on the pitch ? and in this case the official did.
Yet the severity of Drogba?s actions might mean the authorities still hit him with a ban. Liverpool defender Jamie Carragher received a three-game ban in 2002 after throwing a coin back to Arsenal fans.
And Leeds? Alan Smith got a two-match ban after hurling a bottle at Manchester United fans.
Drogba?s strike was cancelled out by Ade Akinbiyi?s equaliser for Burnley, who won the shootout after Wayne Bridge and John Obi Mikel missed for Chelsea. Blues boss Phil Scolari said: ?If I?m angry it is with me. If my players make mistakes it is because I don?t give good lessons. Burnley deserved it, they took better penalties.?
